What is Fresh Meadows Vision?
Fresh Meadows Vision is a long-term plan to refresh the community by making significant enhancements, including more community gathering and green spaces, new community-oriented retail along 188th Street, approximately 1,800 new parking spaces, upgraded childcare and senior care facilities, improved drainage systems and pipes, and much more. The plan also includes the addition of up to 2,000 high-quality mixed-income apartment units, which would help address the local community’s need for more affordable housing.
As we develop the plan for Fresh Meadows Vision, we want to ensure that any changes preserve the welcoming and familiar character of the Fresh Meadows planned community and the surrounding area.
How long will this project take? When will it start?
We are in the early stages of this project, and any construction likely would not begin for at least three years. The construction for this project would be completed in phases over the course of several years.
Our top priority is the well-being of our residents and the local community, so the implementation of Fresh Meadows Vision would be phased to minimize disruption to those who call Fresh Meadows home and to our neighboring communities.
Why are you undertaking Fresh Meadows Vision?
We want to ensure that Fresh Meadows continues to be a highly desirable home for generations to come.
We have heard from our residents about improvements that are needed at Fresh Meadows, including more parking spaces, bigger and better childcare, senior, and recreational facilities, more accessible homes, upgrades to prevent flooding, and improvements to waste management.
We are working collaboratively with the city to explore how we can enhance the living experience by addressing these community needs at Fresh Meadows while providing more homes and much-needed affordable housing for the local community.

How will you preserve the character of this community?
Preserving the character of the Fresh Meadows community, which generations of New York families have called home, continues to be extremely important as we advance Fresh Meadows Vision.
To accomplish this goal, we are working with a variety of experts, including landscape architects, urban designers, and environmental and civil engineers, to ensure the new community spaces and buildings, as well as the new residential units, fit within the character of our community.
Our plan seeks to maintain a high ratio of open space to buildings, even with the various new buildings and improvements to recreation areas we are proposing. We plan to use traditional building materials and designs that, while modern, are consistent with the current Fresh Meadows buildings, so the community continues to feel like home for our residents.
What approvals are needed to move forward with Fresh Meadows Vision?
Fresh Meadows Vision will require approvals from the New York City Planning Commission and the New York City Council. These approvals will be subject to the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure, or ULURP, and will also be reviewed by Community Board 8 and the Queens Borough President.
Who is involved in planning for Fresh Meadows Vision?
We are working with a variety of experts to ensure that we fulfill our commitment to enhancing the community for all residents and neighbors, including landscape architects, urban designers, architects, and environmental and civil engineers.
How would the project benefit me as a resident?
We believe Fresh Meadows Vision will improve the overall living experience in several ways, including by providing additional green and community gathering spaces, upgraded childcare facilities and senior programs, new parking spaces that will meaningfully improve the parking-space-to-unit ratio, more accessible housing options, and better drainage to prevent flooding.
Would this project increase my rent?
We do not expect the plan to impact rent. Rent prices would continue to be subject to market conditions, and rent-regulated units would remain subject to stabilization.
As the process moves forward, we will provide more specific details, and we are committed to ensuring Fresh Meadows remains an affordable community.
How will updates be communicated?
